The P-bracket has the cold junction exposed.  It is also normally placed through the wall of the kiln from within the terminal housing, this bracket has a plate within the bracket design that enables it to be fixed to the fabric of the kiln to prevent movement.  This bracket end does not need a flange.  "P" bracket thermocouples are normally found on Potterycrafts and Northern kilns.
