Decorating slips are liquid clay applied to leather or cheese hard clay, often producing a distinctive form of decoration called "slipware". Common forms of slip decoration are trailing, marbling and feathering. Our slips are supplied for immediate use for dipping or brushing. If a thicker consistency is required the slip should be left to stand and some surface water poured off. For immediate trailing we have introduced our unique trailing packs. In these we have balanced the slips ready for use. Simply shake the bottle, snip off the end of the trailing nozzle to the desired opening and trail away. After use replace the end cap for storage. These slips are based on a blend of white firing ball clays and china clay with the addition of balanced stains. The brightest results will be obtained at earthenware temperatures. All slips can be fired to stoneware temperatures but a weakening of colours will be evident. Best results can be obtained by glazing with a transparent glaze such as 2201 Low-sol Transparent, 2210 Super Clear (Low-sol) or 2207 Spring Clear (Unleaded). All slips should be fired to 1110°C or higher to achieve a good "glaze fit". Slips available in 500ml bottles or 5 litre tubs and 100ml Trailing Packs are: All slips are now available in powder form. 1221 Orchid White is held in stock for immediate sale. All other colours are available to order. |

| TIPS FOR SLIP TRAILING Always practice on newspaper first to feel the flow. Shake the slip down the pipette of the trailer to eliminate bubbles. Hold the slip trailer at an angle to the surface to be trailed on. Hold the trailer between the thumb and forefinger for angle and enert slight pressure. Never push the end of the trailer into the clay. The movement of the trailer should be in the opposite direction to that in which the trailer is pointed. Never try to apply vertical lines onto a pot while it is standing upright. Always turn the pot on its side and then trail. A thick line is made by squeezing harder and moving slowly. A thin line is made by squeezing lightly and moving faster. The consistency of the slip will effect the thickness of lines. For a beginning thicker slip is easier to trail. |
