SUPERIOR GLAZES

• Low fire lead free coloured glazes
• Firing range is cone 07 (984°C) to cone 03 (1101°C)
• 1 to 3 coats application to bisque
• All colours are fully intermixable
• Available in 140ml, 500 ml. Clear and White are also available in 5 litre

USAGE
Superior Glazes add colour and gloss to ceramic ware in a single step. A large range of colours and clear are available, they are all unleaded and depending on the colour are translucent, semi-opaque or opaque in their coverage. They provide a beautiful and practical means of giving solid colour coverage to broad areas or for highlighting decorative or incised ware.

Superior Glazes are for application to bisqueware and when fired correctly will seal and protect the ceramic ware from moisture and discoloration caused by contact with food and liquids.

The coloured appearance of the clear Superior Glaze is intended to assist application by highlighting glazed areas.

APPLICATION
Depending on the firing temperature two or three full coats are required to achieve the best results. These are applied at right angles to one another (i.e. crosshatched), allowing each to dry in-between. A soft glazing brush should be used in order to minimise streaking. Besides brushing, Superior Glazes may also be sponged.

Superior Glazes are suitable for use in controlled glaze effects, for majolica techniques and are overglaze compatible.

The Clear Superior Glaze may be applied over Underglaze and One Stroke decoration to enhance the colour and seal and protect the ceramic ware.

Superior Glazes may be sprayed and thinned with clean water if necessary to improve glaze flow..

PHYSICAL DATA
Superior Glaze codes are suffixed by an opacity indicator “O” for opaque; “S” for Semi-Opaque and “T” for transparent.

Superior Glazes may be intermixed however it is not advised to mix Superior Glazes with Hobby Leaded Glaze as they are incompatible and the result will not be food-safe.

Superior Glazes are specifically formulated for application onto low fire earthenware clay that has been bisque fired to cone 04 to 03 (1060°C to 1101°C), then gloss fired to between cone 05 to 04 (1046°C to 1060°C). If used with conventional clay bodies fired to 06 bisque (1000°C) and having a maturing range outside that of the Superior Glazes crazing of the glaze will occur. This will allow liquids to seep through and therefore is not acceptable for domestic ware, but is often found to be acceptable for decorative pieces.

Superior Glazes have a broad recommended firing range from cone 07 to 03 (i.e. from 980°C to 1100°C) subject to the clay body being used.
