Porcelain Clays
Many of the porcelain bodies that have been developed for the craft or studio market use artificial plasticisers to aid working proeprties of the clay. These invariably introduce thixothrophic properties to the clay body. If you have one of these clays (i.e 1086 Imperial Porcelain, 1084 Superior Porcelain and 1149 HF (Craft) Porcelain) that appears to have become firm in the bag , the problem can be easily resolved by just slamming the bag down onto a hard flat surface two or three times. Hey presto the clay will have become softer!
